Intimacy... what a funny word. After a retreat that I attended on this weekend, it holds a new and profound meaning for me.
I am Alvin and I'm checking in as Happy, at Peace and Renewed.
I went to "Big Canoe" in the mountains of Georgia over the weekend and spent a life altering 3 days with 11 other amazing black men. We all shared and purged personal demons, past hurts and long hidden secrets. The end result was a wonderful and cathartic spiritual cleansing. I feel lighter and more focused. I have 10 new spirits that I now feel connected to and that I wish to nurture our relationships and allow them to grow. I also have a renewed mandate to get my personal space in order and get out of my own way.
I've learned to begin to truly explore the way that my own past continues to control my present. I also realize now that I can no longer allow fear to keep me from being Present and in control of my life. It's a process that I'm determined to commit to and hopefully share to the brothers and sisters in my circle.
As I check out, I just want to say - "Nurture and take care of the child within and he will help you to grow and manifest into a Happy and Healthy adult"
Until lata.... I appreciate all who have touched my life and taken the time out to check in on me from time to time.
Love,
Alvin
Hello fellow Vox pals. It's been a while, I know. Just popping in to say "Hey!" and share some videos. YouTube is still my television, but I think I'd like the real thing, too. TVs are definitely not a priority in my life right now, but it would be nice to watch Oprah and Ugly Betty every now and then.
Speaking of "The Real Thing" ... here's Jill!
She sold me, particularly by invoking the legacy of Sarah Vaughan. Definitely this and Chaka Khan's latest "Funk This" are must haves. In fact, Kenyon recently mentioned these and some others on his blog, too. (By the way, I heard that Meshell's new CD has KUDU's dynamic drummer Deantoni Parks all over it.) And more - Donnie, Ledisi - there's a lot of great music out there.
And while we wait to hear more on the new Labelle project:
... wow! She could easily go toe-to-toe with any of these girls today! WOW!
Until next time, "Let Me Borrow That Top!"
[Obviously, YouTube is my television. Enjoy these clips until I get back. I'll try not to stay away too long.]

Philippe and I hooked up with Zun to visit the Brooklyn Museum of Art for First Saturday. I have to go back to see the Annie Leibovitz retrospective when there's less of a crowd to really study it. The DJ doing the dance party was kinda tired this time. Again, lots of children running around on solid marble seemingly without any parental supervision. Honey, if I were a woman the tubes would be tied TIGHT! *LOL!*
It was the place to be last night, easily the event of the year! A house party chocked full of wonderful men, starting with the hosts - my good friends John and Curtis! I'd been waiting a long time for this party and they did not disappoint!
We had so much fun! I had a ball just doing my thing, taking photos, drinking, eating, drinking, taking photos - and smiling up in the faces of these men! And taking photos:
Check me out: go to the site and search for "donald.agarrat" to see all my yummy creations. And rate them and/or leave a comment! What's my secret for creating such sinfully delicious renditions of decadence? Firefox, its Colorzilla extension and Google Image Search.
